Book Review:Brave Queen Esther

Brave Queen Esther is part of the ZonderKidz, I Can Read, Adventure Bible Series. This book is at a Level 2 reading standard which the publisher states it is a high interest story for developing readers. This book is geared toward an audience of 4 to 8 year olds.

This book retells the familiar story of a young woman named Esther. She lives in the pagan land of Persia with her cousin Mordecai. As the King is searching for a wife, young Jewish Esther is chosen. Haman rises up as an enemy of the Jewish people and Esther discovers his sinister plot.

As with many books geared toward young children there are deviations from the Biblical account and this book is not the exception. However, it does give the parent the opportunity to read through the book of Esther straight from the Bible and expand on the message of this particular book of the Bible.

My daughter, who is five, read through this book in the first sitting. The pictures are very alluring, The colors are bright and vibrant. I love the facial expressions of the characters which eluded to the particular situation the characters found themselves in.

At the very end of the book there is a section called "People of the Bible". It gives further insight to who Esther and Mordecai are. And a "Did You Know Know?" section. This section describes the Feast of Purim and the Jewish traditions that go along with celebrating this annual feast.

I do recommend this book to parents who look to build their child's library with books that direct them to the Word of God. I have several books in this series and I look forward to adding more ZonderKidz Adventure Bible Series books.
