Book Review: Get To Know King David

About The Book:
A shepherd and a king, David lived an adventurous life. He protected his family’s sheep from lions and bears. He fought a giant with just a sling and stone. He even spent years hiding from men who were trying to kill him. And eventually, David became a great king. But David was also a man of God. Learn more about this hero from the Bible and his exciting place in history. Discover what it was like to grow up in ancient Israel and then be a king of God’s people. King David - part of the Get to Know series - will teach you everything you need to know about an imperfect young man whom God used to do great things!

My Review:
My youngest daughter Genesis loves vividly illustrated books; she is always drawn to them and can re-read her favorite titles over and over again! When I saw this book, I knew that she would enjoy both the full-color pictures and the facts behind a character she's read about in the Bible.

Get To Know King David is a full-color biography for younger children, complete with easy to understand text portions, fun facts titled Did You Know? and a dictionary of sorts that define words such as Ark of the Covenant and the Ten Commandments to give kids a better understanding of Bible terms. There are also sections titled Bible Hero and Eyewitness Account that provide a little more in-depth information. I found all of these resources to be helpful in explaining the Bible in an age appropriate way. Not only is Get To Know King David an easy read, it's also an entertaining read. Any child with a desire to learn will find this read enjoyable.

What really sets this title and the others in the series apart is the wealth of information explained in an engaging way. My daughter's favorite part are all of the full-color photos; they're just like the ones found in "grown-up" Bible dictionaries and concordances. The overall look of this book, I think, also encourages young children in their own study of scripture because it's easy to use but bits of it resemble study books parents use.

So, if you're looking for fun Bible study resource for your children I highly recommend the Get To Know series including the Get To Know King David title.
