Book Review: Adventures In Odyssey 90 Day Devotional

If your child enjoys listening to the Adventures in Odyssey audio drama series by Focus on the Family or looking at the various videos they have out then they are sure to enjoy Adventures in Odyssey: 90 Devotions for Kids.

This devotions book is geared toward children ages 6 and up.  It begins with an introduction by "Mr. Whittaker" at how to use the book.  If this is the first devotional book that your child will be doing I think this section may prove to be very helpful.  What I thought was an essential line in the introduction is affirming the fact that the Bible is the absolute Word of God.

There are thirteen biblical themes in this devotional.  Each theme has an introduction to explain the idea of the theme a bit further and seven devotions, a memory verse and a daily challenge to participate in.  At the end of each theme there is either a fun crossword puzzle, word search or quiz to complete.  These are really fun to do! (if your child gets stumped on an answer there is an answer key at the very end of the book.

There are even snippets of spiritual heroes like Corrie Ten Boom and Rich Mullens.

I enjoyed the first theme which is Salvation (Ephesians 2:5).  There is a short story to explain to children the principal of salvation being free to those who choose to receive it.  You should keep your bible handy to read the accompanying verses and illustrate to your child salvation from a biblical point of view.

Even though the pictures are gray scale My daughter enjoyed looking through the book.  I also appreciated that at the end of each devotional there is a memory verse to encourage children to hide the Word of God in their hearts.

Tyndale House Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
