Four Weeks to a More Organized Home: Day 3

I was able to follow along today with Day 3 of the 21 Days to a More Organized Home {Simplified}.

The assignment for today was to tidy up the bedroom and clean out the freezer.  However, I was able to complete the bedroom part of it as I got sidetracked and started doing other things around the home.

I made my bed this morning.  I thought I did a good enough job:(

no excuses....

Now I really made the bed....
put away my husband's clean laundry

and tidied up the top of our dresser.

Four Weeks to a More Organized Home: Day 1 & 2

I do get inspired when Money Saving Mom hosts one of her challenges.

As soon as I read this post I knew I wanted to get involved.
November 5th through December 7th she will be posting daily assignments to get us motivated and onward to a more organized home in 21 days.

Last week, I started cleaning out my closet and have desired to get a jump on cleaning out the house before the new year.  I cleaned out most of my closet and I have two big bags of clothes to donate as well as shoes and purses.

Now onto the 21 Day Challenge:

Day 1 Assignment:

Clean out purse. DONE!

Had my planner, my daughter's hair tie, my jar of Vaseline, and lotion which I just don't use

Now, I have my essentials: lip balm, reusable bag, coupon carrier, camera bag, antibacterial gel, gloves and I decided to keep the lotion in there anyway.  Hey, you never know:)

Day 2 Assignment:

Set the timer for 10 minutes and do a quick-clean of your kitchen: wash the dishes, clear off the counter tops, and, if you have time, wipe down the counter tops and the outside of the cupboards with wet rag or cleaning cloth. DONE! (Not the wipedown of the cupboards part)
Set the timer for 10 minutes and do a quick clean of your refrigerator. Remove all the contents that are past their prime, wipe down the sticky spots, and re-organize things so they are easier to get to. DONE!

These contents are certainly past their prime;)

Aaaahhh....much better:)

With both assignments I had to allot myself an additional 5 minutes to get the job done.
Glad it is DONE!

Monthly Goals: November

I have challenged myself to jot down my goals and follow through although it proves to be challenging for me.  It's been a time management issue for me. However, I am not giving up. The Lord's grace will carry me through this adventure:)

Now for October's monthly goals.  It did not go as planned.  I fell behind but instead of lamenting I am moving forward and pressing on. So, without further ado:

November's Monthly Goals:
1. Go over the financials with my husband;
2. Follow along with Crystal for the 21 day challenge.  May not be able to blog about it everyday but I certainly want to keep up with it;
3. Catch up on reading with my girls :)
4. Update Homeschooling planner for both girls;
5. Update my planner;
6. Keep up with my prayer calendar;
7. Continue to help my tot learn to sound out her letters and begin to learn to read basic words;
8. Read another book this month

Five Minute Friday: Roots

As I looked out my window I see a huge tree uprooted by Hurricane Sandy. I noticed the tree has thick roots that were once embedded deep in the ground even some that flowed below the concrete which is now exposed.  The concrete pathway is now in need of much repair.  The tree stood there tall and hovering high for decades.  It was immovable.

However, what once stood high, strong and healthy now lays bare of its limbs, branches and leaves.  It is now slowly dying.  It waits to be discarded and disposed.  Soon it's grandeur will be forgotten.

How that tree reminds me of what could have been and what will be if I am not rooted deep in my Jesus.  No matter how long I stand "firm" if I am not praying and watching I too, can fall.

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  The rains came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house: yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." ~ Matthew 7: 24-25

EBook Review: 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life

Crystal Paine, author of the Money Saving Mom blog, recently introduced her new book, 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life.

Throughout the book the message is clear.  Becoming disciplined is a choice.  She encourages her readers to live out a more disciplined life which in turn will ultimately result in reaping rewards that will extend far beyond the individual that begins the disciplined lifestyle journey.

She outlines practical concepts and applications to begin to intentionally develop and implement life altering habits. She shows her readers how to take a big goal and break it down into achievable pieces.

Throughout the book she included "practical applications" that outline specific steps you can take to achieve and motivate you to overcome the habit of procrastinating.  The ebook also includes printable lists to implement throughout the 21 day journey.

I enjoyed the book and find the concepts she outlined attainable and not overwhelming.

If you are committed to make a change, this book will certainly challenge and inspire you to make a decision for discipline.

If you are interested in obtaining a copy, you can order here.

Word Filled Wednesdays

This verse speaks of the immeasurable love of Jesus.  The price of our sin, Jesus bore it on Himself at the cross.

Beloved of the Lord, remember that we must consider others better than ourselves and it is certainly a blessing and should be a joy to serve others.

Book Review: When To Speak Up & When To Shut Up

I was very much intrigued when I read the blurb on this book.

It reads,

~ The cost and purpose of silence
~ Why to check motives when talking to friends, family and authorities
~ Ways to deal with anger and resentment
~ How to overcome pressure and remain silent

This book provides great personal real-life experiences from the author that many readers could relate to.  He includes biblical references to highlight issues of complaining, questioning and being persistent.

I also appreciated the thought provoking questions listed throughout the book.  The questions caused me to examine my heart and motives when choosing to remain silent and even when I decide to speak up.

I have to admit I am not very fond of the title of the book.  The "shut up" in the title is worded a bit harsh for my liking.  In spite of the title, I was drawn in and did appreciate the content and it certainly enlightened me.  The Bible clearly states that we must be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.  This is the theme translated throughout the entire book.

The author touches on a very important issue in a chapter called, "A Question to Authority".  In this chapter He shares that if someone has a questioning attitude with spiritual authorities that also creates a barrier between the person and God.  The danger lies in that the person can set themselves to be an authority.

We should speak with caution and not in a confrontational form of communication but rather encourage communication by helping one another to find a way to speak their thoughts.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my review from
Chosen Books! & Bethany House

Five Minute Friday: Look

"You are the God who sees me." Hagar said.  She realized that You were not far from her. Your eyes were looking and witnessing her dilemma.

She was not alone.

We are not alone.

You see right through the smiling faces that disguise hurting hearts. You look at the pain, the distrust that has taken many captive. You look at the walls that are being edified that separate from Your loving embrace. You see wandering eyes.  Eyes that are not firmly fixed on You.

You look at the hearts that are wanting to draw near to You.  You see the desire to serve You. You do not turn away from a contrite heart.  You see it ALL!

I know longer feel overlooked. You look at me and call me Your beloved.

We are not alone.   You are always looking!

Help us to live knowing that Your eyes are always upon us.  You are always looking.
